FOR THE PARENTS (or mom and dad to be!)

As a new (ish) mom, this is a category I feel super passionate about. Babies outgrow clothing, accessories like bouncers, and even toys ridiculously fast. When I was preparing for Logan’s arrival I sourced 90% of the items I wanted from secondhand sites and other moms. I also saved a ton of money that way!

I LOVE Rebelstork. In fact, I bought a gift card for a mom friend of mine to introduce her to the benefits of open box and gently used baby gear! I tell everyone in my life that is a parent or soon to be parent about it because again, babies outgrow everything so quickly that it’s crazy to buy things new at full price. Secondhand is beneficial to the planet and your wallet. It’s a fact!

Another great site to try is GoodBuy Gear. And of course, Facebook Marketplace and your local Mom/Dad groups!

Clean and EWG verified baby essentials! I actually reached out to the company over email to ask about the end of life of their diapers, and this was their response:

“Our diapers are not biodegradable, compostable or recyclable, the truth is no disposable diapers are compostable or biodegradable. Unfortunately when a diaper brand markets that its disposable diaper is biodegradable or compostable, it actually means that some parts of the diaper can biodegrade if they are separated from the rest of the diaper after the diaper has been used, and brought to an industrial composting facility that provides the right environment for the parts to break down over time.

Unfortunately, there are only a few composting facilities in the US that accept diapers, so the majority of these diapers end up in a landfill, and the parts of them that could biodegrade do not. Because of this, we focused on the beginning of the supply chain and the materials we source - we focused on replacing petroleum-based materials with plant-based materials in our diaper, in order to be as sustainable as possible while making a diaper that is as effective as conventional diapers.”

I love their honesty and transparency and really respect what they are doing to ensure their diapers are sustainable as possible given the constraints.

I love this service. I was so skeptical about cloth diapering but having a service that was able to pick up and launder for us was a game-changer. Nina, the owner, was so helpful teaching us the process and having a mentor of sorts made me feel better about trying something so new!

The service is reasonably priced if you normally buy higher end diapers but compared to a mass market brands it’s definitely more expensive. Not everyone has the privilege to pay for a service like this but if you do and you are in the NYC or Austin, TX area and want to try cloth diapering I highly recommend it!
